Glass doors should be fully open when starting a fire and when the fire is burning strongly. When burning gas logs in a wood burning fireplace the glass doors should always be fully open when the gas logs are burning. When using gas logs fire glass or modern gas media the doors must remain fully open at all times while in use. Carefully slide the door into the firebox opening.

First open the flue. Open the gas fireplace doors and place a thick layer of newspapers beneath each door. Open both the bi fold doors using the handles. Spray both sides of each door with orange citrus cleaner taking care to cover the entire surface.

Check to see if they need repair such as tightening the screws or track cleaning before starting your fire. Let stand for 15 minutes. Wipe down the doors. Check that no insulation is sticking out around the edge of the frame.

Make sure anything that can burn. Using a socket wrench tighten the screws to secure the unit to the brick. The glass doors should be closed as the fire dies down to minimize the amount of room air going up the fireplace chimney. Behind the doors there should be a wire mesh fireplace screen.

Always keep the screen mesh on your fireplace closed when using the fireplace to guard against sparks popping out of the firebox area. Reach inside and twist sheet metal screws through the bottom brackets and into the lead anchors. Follow these steps to use your glass fireplace doors when you are ready to enjoy a fire. Tinting the glass on your doors can reduce the visibility of things like ashes or soot smoke stains.
