Unplug and release the garage door from the motor assembly.
How to unwind garage door torsion bar.
Assume the old spring will break and take the proper precautions.
Measure your torsion shafts and mark them.
Now unwind the old spring using the proper equipment.
Unwind each spring with the help of 2 winding bars.
Repeat on the other spring.
Set your springs on the proper sides of the door.
Take your second winding bar and insert it into the hole at a 9 o clock position.
Assume the old spring will break and take the proper precautions.
Position the second winding bar into a hole on the winding cone at a perpendicular angle to the first.
Measure your torsion shafts and mark them.
Now unwind the old spring using the proper equipment.
Set your springs on the proper sides of the door.
Use a winding bar that is at least 18 inches long.
A good rule of thumb.
Insert the winding bar into the winding cone s hole at the bottom of the in tact spring.
You ll have to hold the bar in place to loosen the two screws which will demand some strength on your part.
