How to tighten wire strand fencing tightening barbed wire double or single strand wire fences can be done using pliers in the same way as a mesh fence but a more effective option is to create a hitch or twist tie by looping the wire around itself and using a lever to twist it tight.
Pull the wire as tight as you can with one gloved hand then use the other hand to catch the wire in the v groove of a curved nail puller.
In most cases a long bolt will be perfect as a lever.
Attach the wire clamp on your come along and clip it to the wire leaving a few feet between the clipping point and the point of connection to the fence post.
Take them a half turn past or sometimes a full revolution past that next wire so they can connect with it in a neutral pressure situation.
Be careful not to over tighten the wire.
