How to stain paneling walls.
Apply at least two thin coats of paint.
Use a brush to fill in any grooves.
Wet a soft cloth with stain don t saturate it and use smooth consistent strokes while applying medium pressure to rub it into the wall.
Put up a big wide curtain rod as wide as possible and hang light colored curtains on the window wall then hang lots of big art on the walls.
Lightly sand the wood surface.
Big colorful travel posters or anything you like as long as it s big.
Apply a thin coat of primer with a roller.
When painting for wood paneling choose either a stain blocking latex primer or an oil based primer.
For paneling with knots apply a shellac based primer to prevent the color of the knot from bleeding through.
Clean the wall paneling with diluted tsp.
Remove any excess paint that collects in the panel grooves using your brush.
Use a brush to apply primer into the grooves of the paneling.
Wipe off the excess stain with a clean cloth after about.
Create large framed rectangles a series of squares or a diagonal lattice pattern on top of the paneling.
Apply a thin coat of your paint to all paneling surfaces.
Paint the paneling.
Take care of any drips right away too.
Turn it frequently and buff until the stain looks even.
Wait several minutes then wipe off the excess working with the grain of the fake wood with a dry rag.
Before painting paneling use painter s tape to mask off your mouldings windows doors and ceiling.
Work in sections using grooves or breaks in the paneling as your guide.
Add sleek molding to your wood paneled walls and then paint or stain it to match.
Allow the primer to dry a full 24 hours before painting over it.
Apply the stain liberally using a foam applicator natural bristle brush or lint free rag.
